Dave Wood (b. September 5, 1926 – d.July 7, 1974) was a professional comic book writer who worked for DC Comics during the Silver Age of Comics.

Personal History

Dave Wood was born David Silva, the son of Dr. Severo Silva and Winnie McNelly. His father was a well known doctor in Massachusetts, but ran afoul of the law. After several court cases, Dr. Silva died of an apparent suicide in 1932. The family petitioned the court to change the surname to Wood to escape the infamy.

After graduating high school, Dave moved to New York City to work for his brothers. Bob and Dick Wood ran a successfull comic book studio with Charles Biro. He briefly joined the army as a reporter in 1944 and returned to comics when he was demobilized.[1]

He started working on the Danger Trail book and then he moved on to different titles such as Our Army at War, World's Finest, Batman, Detective Comics and many more. He worked as an uncredited ghost for Bob Kane for several years, creating the Batman villains Mister Zero, Doctor Double X and the Terrible Trio.
