The Del Toro family is not only the most prominent organized crime family in South Florida, but they are also a family of vampires.

History

The family line extends back more 270 years to the country of Nicaragua. Del Toro patriarch, Eduardo Del Toro, Sr. became a vampire around this time and eventually emigrated to Florida. For the past eighty years, the Del Toros have dominated the Miami underworld. Throughout the decades, Eduardo administred the family's business affairs through his trusted friend and consigliere, Zephraim Klein. In addition to the other family members, the Del Toro's were assisted by their cousin, Victor Sanchez, who also happened to have been carrying on an affair with Eduardo's wife, Arabella.[1]

In 2004, Eduardo, Sr. was assassinated and his children, Eduardo, Jr., Leto and Risa Del Toro swarmed in to fill the vaccuum. Surpisingly, it was the estranged Leto Del Toro who had inherited the family estate, causing an even greater rift between he and his siblings. Eddie believed that, as the oldest son, he should be the one to continue their father's legacy, while Risa, ever the "Daddy's Girl", felt that her own industriousness and influence in the community made her the logical choice. Ultimately, Risa had her way (as she was wont to do) and became the leader of the family after disposing of both brothers.

The vampiric nature of the Del Toro family line was well known to local law enforcement agencies, as was their connections to the Miami underworld. To this end, the Vampire Crime Unit was established with the express purpose of bringing the Del Toros down. Leading the charge in the numerous investigations was Detective Michael Fortine.
