Quote1 The Batman seldom enjoys himself! I'm certain he envies those who can lead peaceful lives! He's driven… he's burdened with a compulsion to battle crime! It isn't pretty-- it's simply what he does… what he needs to do! Don't pity him-- but don't condemn him either! Quote2

Detective Comics #451 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of September, 1975.

Synopsis for Batman: "The Batman's Burden"

Bruce Wayne, Cumming Streeter and Molly Post are at a resort on San Lorenzo island for charity events. Bruce departs shortly before Batman arrives and interrogates Blady Amber. Molly intervenes, disgusted by Batman's rough manner. Batman pushes her away angering a table of Navy sailors on leave. After a fight Batman chases after Amber who has returned to his hotel, where Molly and Cumming follow them. When Batman confronts Amber again, Molly hits him over the head with a bottle of champagne and Amber runs once again.

Batman remembers that he is here because Commissioner Gordon got a tip of a pending assassination but did not hear the target and their only clue is Baldy Amber. Batman chases after Amber again who tells him the assassin is baseball player Lefty Colon who is supposed to kill Bruce Wayne. Batman leaves but realizes that Lefty is religious and wouldn't agree to go to a backgammon tournament as backgammon is considered gambling. Fearing the assassin may actually go after Molly, Batman goes to warn her only to catch her after she had been thrown out the window by the real assassin, Cumming. After saving Molly, Batman apprehends Cumming with a display of needed violence, which upsets Molly. Later Molly confides in Bruce her disappointment with Batman but Bruce asks her to think twice about judging the Batman.

Synopsis for Robin: "The Parking Lot Bandit Strikes Again"

Robin took a job, as Dick Grayson, as a parking lot attendant in hopes of catching the Parking Lot Bandit who stole $50,000 for the University Treasurer's Office. The police find that another person received a letter with a $10 gift card for the R & S Department Store. This is the M.O. of the Parking Lot Bandit and the police stake out the area. When the Bandit strikes, he swipes the victim's keys and enters a trap set by the police. When questioned about it, the Bandit claims he is innocent of the Hudson University robbery.

Later, Paul Shuster, University Treasurer, is summoned by Chief McDonald and Robin. Robin reveals that Paul was found at the crime scene and claimed to be there to pick up papers from the office. The office keys, however, were in the possession of Mrs. Roberts, his secretary, at that time. Shuster tries to attack Robin, but he ends up captured.

Afterwards, Dick Grayson and Lori Elton spend a night in each other's company.
