Synopsis for "Beyond the Law!"

Batman chases a gang of jewel thieves through a subway station, only to be forced to let them go when they take civilians hostage. The entire event is witnessed by Helena Bertinelli, who had retired from the mantle of the Huntress over a year ago. Upon seeing Batman's frustration, Helena is inspired to return to costumed crimefighting.

In her civilian identity, Helena investigates a strange tattoo she had seen on one of the thieves, and determines that it is the herald of an obscure Balkan duchy called Krasna-Volny. She pursues this narrow lead, and eventually finds a Krasna-Volnian pawnbroker whom she suspects has the thieves' loot. Helena slips a tape recorder under the broker's counter, and later returns to his shop as the Huntress, only to find Batman already there, pursuing the same case.

Huntress is initially hostile to the idea of cooperating with Batman, but eventually relents and gives him her tape recorder. The tape contains a conversation spoken entirely in Krasnian, which Batman deciphers with the Batmobile's dashboard computer. The conversation leads Batman and Huntress to an old house in West Colony, where they find and quickly subdue the pawnbroker and the thieves. Seconds later, however, the police charge in and explain that the building is a Krasna-Volnian embassy, meaning that Batman and Huntress are now under arrest for violating the thieves' diplomatic immunity.
