Synopsis for Batman: "Crime's Early Bird"

During a bird exhibition, the Penguin and his henchmen steal the trained birds. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson happen to pass near by the place and after learning about the situation, they change into Batman and Robin. The Dynamic Duo are confronted by the Penguin and his gang, who are being followed by the bird trainer. Using his trademark umbrella, Penguin creates a smoke screen that allows his gang to escape from Batman and Robin.

Some time later, Penguin and his thugs open a bird store and they start their crime spree by using the trained birds. Their first hit takes place after a wealthy men buys a parrot, trained to memorize safe combinations. When the bird becomes sick, Penguin goes to the place and drugs both the bird and the owner. Before they die, the parrot repeats the safe combination and Penguin acquires all the money. When the police investigate the scene, they can't find any evidence to incriminate the Penguin. The next hit takes place in a jewelry store, where Penguin sets loose a couple of small birds that start gathering various precious gems before leaving through the window. Batman and Robin notice the incident and follow the birds to the Penguin's hideout, where they try to bring the gang down, but are delayed by Penguin and his trick umbrella. The Dynamic Duo are forced to stay behind and save the henchmen, while Penguins gets away riding an ostrich. Batman and Robin find the loot from their past crimes and, knowing that Penguin would be anxious to strike again, Batman places some bait in his henchmen's heads, and they then run away to tell Penguin what they learned from Batman, about Bruce Wayne's secret safe.

The next night, Penguin steal Wayne's safe and takes a valuable chest to his hideout. However he hasn't noticed that he had been followed all the way home, by Batman and Robin in their Batplane. When Penguin opens the chest, all he finds are bats! And soon the duo break into the place. Using his umbrella, Penguin gets the upper hand and ties them up in a room with a real penguin, while he creates a special poison gas that will kill them. Batman gets the attention of the real bird, and with its help, Batman breaks free and helps Robin. They try to stop Penguin's evil scheme, but before he can be captured, the small man jumps out of the window and slides to the next building across a rope, with help from his umbrella. Batman and Robin try to get across the same way, but Penguin cuts the rope before they can reach him. Batman and Robin survive and they climb to the top of the building, which is a belfry. The final battle between Penguin and the vigilantes begins, but using one last trick, the bird master summons a couple of eagles to their location. Batman and Robin are distracted fighting away the birds while the Penguin glides down to the streets and gets away in a car. Knowing that they can't reach him, the duo decide to let Penguin go for the time being.
