Detective Comics #691 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1995.

Synopsis for "Will It Go 'Round in Circles"

Spellbinder and his girlfriend, Fay Moffit, set a trap for Batman and Robin. The duo manage to overcome the illusions prepared by Spellbinder and capture all of his henchmen, but Billings and Moffit escape.

Later Bruce is dissed at the golf field by J. Devlin Davenport. That night Batman and Robin go out on patrol to search for Spellbinder. He is staying at The Excelsior Motel. When he turns the TV on, Neron speaks through the TV and offers the chance to create real illusions without tricks in exchange for the soul. Billings rejects the offer but Fay draws a gun and shoots Billings dead. Then she asks Neron if the offer is open to anybody or just for Billings to which Neron answers that he was actually speaking to her all the time.

The Major Crimes Unit is called upon to investigate the murder and Montoya goes on a date with Johnny. Batman and Robin investigate a possible robbery target. When they arrive to the place they find that the guard is having all kind of delusions. They meet Fay as the new Spellbinder with the powers given to her by Neron. She twists the duo's reality perception and attempts to get away with the stolen gold. When Batman and Robin manage to follow her, she demonstrates the limits of her new powers by taking Batman and Robin into a surreal white nothingness.

Trivia

  • Spellbinder hides in a Motel named The EXCELSIOR MOTEL. This is probably an homage to Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, who uses the word "excelsior" as a catchphrase.
