Detective Comics #758 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 2001.

Synopsis for "Unknowing, Part One"

Now that she knows that her client Bruce Wayne is actually the Batman, bodyguard Sasha Bordeaux is determined to do her job and protect him in both identities. However, tailing the Batman is not exactly an easy task, and she finds that he needs considerably less sleep than he does.

While Bruce Wayne convinces developer Clint Cantwell that Gotham City is an ideal place to build, the Major Crimes Unit investigate a strange occurence where three police officers committed a robbery and claim to have had no control over their actions at all. Further investigation reveals a rash of unsolved crimes in the areas close to police precinct buildings, all during coffee breaks - Detectives Allen and Montoya begin to suspect that one of the city's more colourful criminals is at work, but are not sure which one.

That night, Sasha realises that Bruce knows that she knows he's Batman, and the Mad Hatter, having been disguised as a coffee vendor outside GCPD headquarters, makes a phone call to Allen and Montoya, putting them under his control. Sasha sees them don ski masks and hold up a pole dancing club. She tries to intervene, but soon finds herself held at gunpoint.

Synopsis for "History Lesson"

Barbara Gordon asks Renée Montoya about the new Commissioner, Michael Akins and how he's settling in. His attitude to Batman is particularly interesting, and Montoya explains why this is. Years ago, the work of the police department in Gateway City was undermined by a vigilante named Watchdog - the people of the city refused to cooperate with the police, thinking that Watchdog would solve everything. Unfortunately, a kidnapping investigation went horribly wrong, ending in the death of both the vigilante and the kidnappers and ensuring that the victim was not found for several weeks - dead, having been locked in a car's trunk for the whole time. However, Akins knows that Gotham City needs Batman, and that frightens him.
