- Penniless, broken in body and spirit, I have, at last, come here, to the bridge. The site where my abusive father met his well-deserved end in a car crash I engineered. In the dark water I see the images of my parents, both slain by my hands, both mocking me for the monstrosity I've become. And in my delusion, I am a frightened little boy again, desperate for their approval. Willing to die for it.

Detective Comics #852 is an issue of the series Detective Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 2009. It was published on January 7, 2009.
Synopsis for "Reconstruction"
Hush wanders the streets of Gotham City beaten and destitute before finally deciding to commit suicide on the same bridge where he killed his father. Instead he washes ashore and is recognized as Bruce Wayne with his surgically-changed face. Using this identity, he seduces a wealthy socialite named Connie Winters in the Peregrinator's Club and kills her at sea to steal her yacht. Taking it to Jamaica, he sells it for several hundred thousand dollars on the black market. This allows him to travel the world as Bruce and he has a brief encounter with Tasmanian Devil in Australia although he is apparently not recognized. In Vietnam he attracts police attention and gets chased into the jungle, where he's captured by paramilitaries working for Catwoman.

Notes
- Hush and Catwoman appear together next in Batman #685.
- This issue is a Last Rites tie-in exploring the aftermath to Batman R.I.P. and Bruce Wayne's disappearance during Final Crisis.[1] It's the beginning of the Hush Money storyline, Paul Dini's follow-up to Heart of Hush.[2] The storyline begins as a two-part Faces of Evil crossover with the main Batman series.[3] However, it's picked up again after a several-month hiatus in the pages of Batman: Streets of Gotham.[4] This arc is preceded on Detective Comics by Dennis O'Neil's two-part Last Days of Gotham crossover and followed by Neil Gaiman's two-part crossover Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?.
- This issue was published on January 7, 2009.
- Paul Dini's run as writer, Dustin Nguyen's run as penciller and Derek Fridolfs's run as inker on Detective Comics all end with this issue.
Trivia
- Hush mentions that Wayne Tower's street address is 1939 Kane Street. This is an obvious reference to Batman creator Bob Kane and Batman's debut appearance published in 1939.[5]
- Thomas Elliot's activity in this story is later seen documented by Vicki Vale while investigating Bruce Wayne's disappearance from Gotham. That story also marks the next appearance of Edwards and the Peregrinator's Club as he's the first person she interviews.[6]
