Synopsis for "Rise of the Batmen, Part 1: The Young and the Brave"

In Gotham City, Azrael clutches his shoulder standing at the window of a church, having been attacked. He looks up at a silhouetted figure with pointed ears. The figure lunges forward, sending Azrael through the church window and landing hard on the church's floor. Azrael tells the figure that he has no intentions of giving up seeing as he believes he serves a higher power. The figure is undeterred by this and a brutal battle ensues. Azrael gets a few good hits in before the figure ultimately gains the upper hand, electrocuting Azrael. The figure does not have the chance to end Azrael's life before being radioed that Batman is approaching.

Batman arrives at the scene, finding Azrael still alive. Batman asks Azrael who attacked him and Azrael tells him that he did.

Later, Kate Kane, aka Batwoman, is having a conversation with her father, Colonel Jacob Kane about her future. He wants her to stop going out as Batwoman and taking down the few criminals Batman does not get to first, instead suggesting that she and him talk about her military future. She ends the conversation and deactivates her comms before realising that there is someone in her apartment.

Turning around she sees that it is Batman. He shows her a small drone that he recovered from the Church where he found Azrael. He explains that the technology is a decade ahead of the highest grade military technology. He was able to access the network it was on and reveals that the drone was a part of a swarm that has been spying on Gotham's various vigilantes who he himself as also been keeping tabs on.

He intends to properly train Gotham's vigilantes as a new crime fighting force in the wake of his recent discovery and asks her to be a member. He tells her that her background in the military makes her perfect for creating an efficient unit of crime fighters as although they have each shown potential, they still require improved training to handle the force that is coming for them.

Batwoman voices her confusion as to why Batman would be so quick to trust her, prompting Batman to remove his mask and reveal himself as her cousin Bruce. She responds to the supposedly great revelation by admitting she had known for a while and had been waiting for him to admit it.

Some time later, at the Bay Street Seaport, a group of thugs on the Penguin's complain about how their current robbery plan should have been full proof as the GCPD arrives at the warehouse they are held up in. The vigilante Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler speaks up from the rafters, revealing that she hacked the leader's phone and leaked the contents to the cops. The thugs open fire on Spoiler, allowing for a hidden Tim Drake, aka Red Robin, to get the drop on them making the fight a short ordeal.

At the end of the fight, Tim reveals that he got a letter back, prompting excitement from Stephanie whereas Tim remains unsure as to what he will do next. Unbeknownst to them, a drone similar to the one Batman showed Batwoman watches them. The moment is undercut by the arrival of Batman and Batwoman who say they have plans for them.

A short time later, a group of armed men surround four children all huddled together in a condemned building. One of the men remarks that the kids are going to be shipped all around the country. They do not get a chance to grab the kids before Cassandra Cain, aka Orphan, bursts down through the ceiling to block their path. She quickly dispatches each of them, leaving the final one begging for mercy before Batman and Batwoman intervene to tell Orphan that they have work to do.

A few nights later, Basil Karlo aka Clayface sits alone in a Gotham theatre watching one of his old movies, having scared off the audience. He is approached by Batman and Batwoman who he is not pleased to see.
