Synopsis for "Imaginary Friends"
In the Doom Patrol's new headquarters, which they took over from the Justice League, Dr. Niles Caulder tells Joshua Clay that he recently got a call from Maxwell Lord. It seems that when the Justice League moved out, they left some things in the souvenir room. Lord called to ask that one of those things, a materioptikon, be returned. Caulder asks Joshua to look in the souvenir room for the materioptikon. Caulder leaves to finish some business in Washington, D.C.
Joshua is reading when Dorothy Spinner walks in and says something is wrong with the TV in her room. Josua goes with Dorothy to see what is wrong with the set. There is nothing on any channel except an empty room with a table and chair. Joshua and Dorothy get to talking and Dorothy mentions that she was schooled by her imaginary friends. She tells Joshua how she had an entire family of imaginary friends. She began to have nightmares from the things her imaginary friends told her, so she shot them when she was eleven. Joshua tactfully excuses himself from the room and goes to check out the souvenir room.
Joshua finds the materioptikon and walks out of the room as inky boys materalize from the floor. Back in Dorothy's room, the TV screen changes. Bloody slippers have appeared on the table. Dorothy says "No," and a seven eyed humanoid behind her says "Oh yes."
As Joshua is frantically hitting the elevator button he is being assaulted by inky boys. Suddenly he finds himself in a swamp being assaulted by a creature with scissors for hands. Then, just as suddenly, he is back in Doom Patrol headquarters.
Back in Dorothy's room, her imaginary family have come to life and they are preparing to punish her. Joshua arrives and he and Dorothy run away from the imaginary family. While running they see a whale swim through the walls of the headquarters. Joshua and Dorothy isolate themselves in a room and Joshua asks Dorothy if she can make these things go away. Dorothy says she's not that strong and she's afraid they'll make her wear the red shoes. Joshua asks Dorothy to tell him about the red shoes. After she tells him, he realizes the materioptikon has boosted Dorothy's image-making power. He breaks into the souvenir room and destroys it. Dorothy confronts her imaginary family and wishes them away.
