Chief Douglas Parker was the chief of police in the town of Smallville.

Douglas Parker first encountered the hero Superboy while still a rookie officer. He arrested criminals known as the Pumpkin Gang, but was secretly helped by a young Clark Kent who was just a baby at the time.[1] This lead to his promotion to captain and then up the ranks to Smalllville's Police Chief.

Chief Parker and Superboy became close friends as he helped him out on so many cases. He gave the Chief a signal device linked to a lamp in the Kent Farm. The lamp in their house would flicker whenever he is needed. The only other two people to receive the signal device were Lana's father Professor Lewis Lang and the President of the United States.[2]

Chief Parker helped restore Superboy's after a string of crimes perpetrated by the Kryptonian teenager Dev-Em.[3] Chief Parker lived with his wife Leah Parker, and for a brief time they fostered teenager Marie Elkins into their home.[4] However Marie was was actually Duo Damsel, a member of the time-traveling Legion of Super-Heroes who was hiding from the sorcerer Mordru.[5] One of the most frequent trouble makers of the town was a teenaged Lex Luthor who he battled with the help of Superboy.

When Superboy left Smallville for Metropolis and became Superman. Parker retired as Police Chief, and from time to time visited Kent Farm after the deaths of Jonathan and Martha to make sure that it did not fall into disrepair.[6]

Parker later became chairman of the Smallville Chamber of Commerce. Superman met Parker's teenaged grandson, Chris Parker Hunt, shortly thereafter.[7]
