Quote1 Ugly is the new beautiful. Quote2
Duela Dent src

Duela Dent is a psychopathic young woman who took residence in Gotham's underground sewers as a tribal leader going by the name Joker's Daughter. She now lives to prove the women of her tribe are superior to the men as well as giving a twisted view on beauty standards.

Early Life

Duela was born to a happy couple somewhere in the suburbs outside of Gotham. Duela's father immediately became uneasy as soon as she was born. As she grew older Duela proved to be a strange child committing odd acts such as trapping a spider in a light bulb, making a mobile for her bed out of knives and creating a corset out of barbed wire. When she turned twelve she took in an "ugly dog" and it was soon thrown out by her father.

Duela's parents took her to a hospital after seeing she had been cutting her face with a box cutter. Duela struggled through her surgery to fix her face thus resulting in half of her face being deformed. Though her parents were appalled by her new appearance, Duela seemed to revel in it, stating she was "flawless". That night her parents argued over Duela's place in their house as she listened in. Eventually, Duela ran away from home.[2].

Becoming Joker's Daughter

Duela arrives in Gotham City's sewers along with a pet cat as they search for The Nethers, the underground society that resides in the sewers in tribes. Along her journey she finds The Joker's face, mistaking it for her reflection. She dons the flesh and uses it to assert her power over a nearby couple where the man is shown to be treating his "mate" unfairly. Duela angrily confronts the man and the couple mistake her for Joker, quickly surrendering. Duela uses a half moon piece of metal she found to brand the man's face with a smile as she demands to know where the tribal leader is.

Many women of the tribe then escort Duela to the tribal leader, Charon who refers to her as The Joker's Daughter. Although he welcomes her to join their tribe she attacks him, but soon realizes her mistake in assaulting him as he quickly overpowers her. He once again offers her a place in his tribe, but she refuses to succumb to the men of the tribe the way the other women do. Charon asks why she is so scornful and she proceeds to lie of a happy childhood and how that disgusted her, though he does not believe her. Duela catches him off guard and brands him like many of the other men of the tribe. The men urge Charon to hand over power to the girl, but he insists they realize she is trying to control him the same way Joker did. Duela wins over the tribe regardless and has Charon sent away as she plans to "show the world what happens when ugly takes over."[2]
