Earth-21 is one of fifty-one divergent realities that branched from the core New Earth reality during the recreation of the multiverse shortly following the events of Infinite Crisis. In this universe, the Cold War ended peacefully in the 1960s as a new age of heroes begins in this era.

History

The Earth of this universe came to have several costumed heroes around 1940, with a team of superheroes known as the Justice Society of America fighting crime across the United States and protecting people from supernatural threats. However, Joseph McCarthy accused the Society of being communist spies, and after a series of hearings, forced them into retirement and outlawing vigilantism all together in the early 1950s.

McCarthy's legislature excluded heroes that agreed to work with the U.S. government, such as Superman and Wonder Woman, who they used as soldiers in the Korean War, and made other vigilantes such as Hourman and the Batman wanted criminals. The Suicide Squad began fighting the powerful threats the Justice Society used to face, as hostilities around Earth began to rise with the arrival of the Cold War.
