History

"Earth-Mortal Kombat" (or Earth-MK or Earthrealm) is an unofficial appellation which refers to the continuity of the Mortal Kombat video game franchise. Earth-MK started to merge with the DC Universe when Superman, last survivor of Krypton and the thunder-god and Guardian of Earthrealm, Raiden, defeated their respected arch rivals, Darkseid, New God and Lord of Apokolips and Shao Kahn, Emperor of Outworld. However, their enemies' defeat was only the beginning as the universes began to merge. People started turning up missing. People who didn't belong to a specific universe began to appear. Even the physical world was merging, fueled by the rage of the Mortal Kombatants as well as the DC Heroes and Villains. Behind the merging is a being known as Dark Kahn--the merged form of Darkseid and Shao Kahn. It's up to the Mortal Kombatants and the DC Heroes and Villains to put aside their differences and stop Dark Kahn before the merging eventually destroys both worlds.

Points of Interest

  • Netherrealm: commonly known as Hell, this is one of the six realms that compose the general setting of Earth-Mortal Kombat. This fiery land is inhabited by demons and wraiths, and ruled by the fallen Elder God known as Shinnok. Scorpion has dwelled here ever since being killed by Sub-Zero.
  • Raiden's Temple: built in Earthrealm in honor of the Thunder God, this shrine lies on a high cliff constantly surrounded by lightning storms.
  • Mountain Hangar: this cliffside facility serves as one of the bases of the Outer World Investigation Agency, founded by Lt. Blade and Maj. Briggs from the U.S. Special Forces to fight off threats from any other realms to Earthrealm.
  • Graveyard: an eerie burial site in Earthrealm.
  • Wu Shi Academy: many great fighters were trained in this dojo, among these ranks are Kung Lao and the champion of Earthrealm, Liu Kang.
  • Shang Tsung's Island This is the former site of the Mortal Kombat tournament and home to Shang Tsung, part of it ends up on Themyscira.
  • Throne Room: located in the very area in which the universes merge, it is from here that Dark Kahn unleashes his destructive plans.

Residents

  • Baraka: a nomadic warrior of a race known as Tarkatans, known by their razor-sharp teeth, long blades concealed within their forearms, and seemingly infinite bloodlust.
  • Kano: a ruthless, cunning mercenary associated to the underground criminal organization known as Black Dragon.
  • Kitana: the princess of the realm of Edenia, which Shao Kahn had seized ages ago.
  • Jackson Briggs: Major of the U.S. Special Forces, known as Jax to his peers, he is Sonya's direct superior. He has bionic enhancements in both arms in order to better fight off Shao Kahn's armies.
  • Liu Kang: trained in martial arts by a Shaolin order known as White Lotus, Kang is the reigning Champion of Mortal Kombat, having thwarted Kahn's plans more than once.
  • Quan Chi: a necromancer from the Netherrealm, who is Shinnok's right-hand man, forging alliances with Outworld to further his master's (and his own) agenda. He has no bearing in the battle between both worlds, but takes part in the uneasy truce between the Forces of Light and the Forces of Darkness to set the universes right again.
  • Raiden: the God of Thunder and protector of Earthrealm, he is always the one to lead the Forces of Light on their battle against Kahn and his minions.
  • Scorpion (Hanzo Hasashi): killed in battle against a warrior known as Sub-Zero, this Japanese ninja became a hellbound spectre bent on vengeance against those responsible for his damnation.
  • Shang Tsung: a demonic shapeshifting sorcerer who serves under Shao Kahn, while secretly plotting to overthrow him.
  • Shao Kahn: the Emperor of Outworld, who has conquered many a realm across the years, whose defeat at the hands of Raiden threw him into a dimensional loophole where he fused with Darkseid, setting in motion the events of MKvsDCU.
  • Sonya Blade: Lieutenant of the U.S. Special Forces, she initially battled to settle a score with Kano, who had slaughtered one of her former partners, but soon found a higher calling.
  • Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang): a cryokinetic ninja belonging to the Lin Kuei clan, he is the younger brother of the ninja who assassinated Scorpion years ago. In inheriting his brother's name and legacy, he also became Scorpion's target, despite not being a ruthless killer like his brother used to be.
  • Johnny Cage: acclaimed martial arts movie star, and one of the main fighters of the Forces of Light. Seen only in the promo comic, as one of the inhabitants from this reality who disappeared with the fusion of the Earths.
  • Goro: member of a race of four-armed muscular behemoths called Shokan. Goro is the prince of the Kuatan province of Outworld, and his notorious bestiality in battle earned him the epithet "Prince of Pain". Seen only in the promo comic, as one of the inhabitants from this reality who disappeared with the fusion of the Earths.
