History

Earth-Super Friends is an alternate reality that never officially existed, and was not part of the original Pre-Crisis Multiverse. Nor was it part of the recreated 52 Multiverse. In many ways, Earth-Super Friends bore several similarities to Earth-One, the most obvious of which, was that its premier super-hero team was the Justice League of America (though they were more popularly known as the Super Friends). Other historical elements from Earth-One was also mirrored in the Earth-Super Friends reality. For example, the Batman of Earth-One once had a relationship with a woman named Silver St. Cloud. The Earth-Super Friends Batman also carried on a romance with his reality's counterpart to St. Cloud.

One of the most striking elements of this reality, was that its heroes were absolute paragons of virtue, with no fault or flaws to speak of. They were incorruptible and wholly committed to helping others while preserving the doctrines of "truth, justice and peace for all mankind".

The earliest known record of a super-powered hero was Kal-El of Krypton. Rocketed to Earth as an infant, Kal-El was adopted by the Kent family and took the Earth name Clark Kent. As a teenager, Kent's Kryptonian super-powers fully developed and he began adventuring in the costumed identity of Superboy. When he grew to adulthood, he relocated to the city of Metropolis where he became a mild-mannered reporter. Abandoning the name Superboy, Kent continued his heroic crusade for justice under the name Superman. During this time, other remarkable people began to appear, each one possessing their own unique gifts, and an equal commitment to serving the cause of justice.

Originally, these heroes operated solely within their own respective territories. With the exception of their super-powered adversaries, they rarely interacted with other heroes, though some of them did take in a teenage partner to share in their adventures. In Gotham City, Batman had a teen sidekick named Robin. They were occasionally accompanied by a pest from another dimension who called himself Bat-Mite. In the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Aquaman protected the seven seas with his pal Aqualad. Other heroes including Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Hawkman soon began to emerge as well.

Before long, these heroes decided to join forces as the Justice League of America. The founding members of the League consisted of Aquaman, Batman, Robin, Superman and Wonder Woman. They headquartered themselves in a building called the Hall of Justice, which was equipped with an advanced communications network and "Trouble Alert" system. They maintained a relationship with important government officials such as General Wilcox, who often alerted the Super Friends to various global threats, including alien invasions. The Justice League (more commonly known now as the Super Friends) also began advising various groups of "heroes-in-training". The first benefactors were the teenage amateur sleuths Wendy and Marvin. Accompanying them was their dog Rex who, through means never fully revealed, occasionally acquired the power of speech. Wendy and Marvin never participated in the Super Friends more dangerous adventures, but often stayed behind in the Hall of Justice keeping an eye on the Trouble Alert.

As years passed, the team roster grew and Wendy and Marvin eventually retired from "training" to further their academic studies. Replacing them on the team were the alien twins from Exxor, Zan and Jayna. Like Wendy and Marvin, these Wonder Twins also had a pet animal - in this case, an Exxorian space monkey named Gleek. Unlike Wendy and Marvin, Zan and Jayna had their own unique super-powers and were given more leeway so far as sharing in League adventures. More often than not however, their inexperience would often get them into trouble, forcing the more seasoned Super Friends to come to their aid.

The Super Friends faced their greatest "challenge" when they encountered a collaboration of villains known as the Legion of Doom. Led by criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, these thirteen super-villains sought for nothing less than total domination of the planet Earth. To accomplish this objective however, they first had to vanquish the Super Friends. To help them in their never-ending struggle against the Legion of Doom, the Super Friends expanded their roster to include veteran heroes such as Flash, Green Lantern and Hawkman. They also brought in heroes unique to this reality such as Apache Chief, Black Vulcan and Samurai. Luthor and his allies, which included such notable villains as Brainiac, Bizarro, Grodd and Sinestro, often used highly advanced weapons and devices to capture the Super Friends, but invariably, the heroes always triumphed.

After countless battles, the Legion of Doom eventually dissolved. [1] The Super Friends found themselves facing more galactic threats, the most dangerous of which was the cosmic despot Darkseid. Accompanying Darkseid was his sniveling assistant DeSaad, and his brutish son Kalibak. Like many villains, Darkseid's goals involved defeating the Super Friends and subjugating the planet Earth, but he also cast an affectionate eye upon the Super Friend Wonder Woman. Determined to make Wonder Woman his bride, Darkseid instigated a series of ambitious against the Super Friends. By this time, League members Flash, Green Lantern and Hawkman had left the team, and Aquaman was devoting only minimal time towards helping the League. Soon, he too left the team. To fill the vacuum, the Super Friends added two more heroes. The first was Firestorm. The second was Cyborg. [2]
