Eddie Cantwell was a Confederate States Army soldier who fought alongside Jonah Hex in the Seventh Cavalry. The two men were close friends, and Eddie saved Jonah's life on at least one occasion.[1] Years later after the war, Cantwell turned to robbing banks and Hex was asked to bring him in as a bounty hunter in order to prove his own innocence. They were interrupted in the middle of their conversation by manhunter Arbee Stoneham, who shot Cantwell dead on the spot and humiliated Hex by taking his guns.[2]
