History

Etta Candy was a frumpy yet high-spirited student at Holliday College during the early years of World War II. In the winter of 1942, Etta and her friends the Holliday Girls met the Amazon super-hero Wonder Woman. They became great supporters of Wonder Woman's acts of heroism, and helped her out on many adventurers. Etta and the Holiday Girls used a mystical device with which they could telepathically communicate with Wonder Woman in times of need. Wonder Woman recruited Etta to help her round up a ring of Nazi spies that had been working in the Washington, D.C. area. Etta personally assisted Wonder Woman in stopping the Nazi ring leader Doctor Poison. [1] When Wonder Woman was abducted by the Austrian Nazi Baroness Paula von Gunther, Etta teamed up with Steve Trevor to track them down and rescue her. She again aided Wonder Woman in helping her to expose a Nazi ring responsible for sabotaging a new Navy submarine the Octopus. Etta's exploits brought her into conflict with Paula von Gunther on at least three more occasions. She later helped to rescue Wonder Woman after she had been captured and bound by the God of War, Mars. [2] In 1943, Etta Candy was engaged to marry a Hungarian Prince named Hylo Goulash. Before long however, the Holliday Girls and she discovered that Goulash was actually a Nazi agent named Karl Schultz. Schultz had captured Steve Trevor and the Holliday Girls seduced Schultz' men in order to rescue Steve. [3]

Very little is known about Etta Candy after her tenure at Holliday College. Etta's activities following World War II up until the time of the Crisis on Infinite Earths remains unknown.

Powers and Abilities

Strength level

Below Average: Etta Candy possessed the strength level of a woman her age, size and weight who engaged in minimal regular exercise. Despite this however, Etta always found a way to turn her shortcomings into strengths. Whenever a situation required her to use physical force against an opponent, she accredited her success to the consumption of candy.

Paraphernalia

Equipment

Etta was almost never seen without a box of chocolates in her hands. At Holliday College, Etta and the Holliday Girls used a mystical device with which they could telepathically communicate with Wonder Woman. [4]

Transportation

Etta drove a dilapidated car, which she named Esmerelda.

Weapons

None, though there have been times when she has been called upon to borrow Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth.

Notes

  • This version of Etta Candy (Earth-Two), including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the Multiverse in the 1985-86 Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series and is now considered apocryphal. * Unlike other versions of the character, Etta Candy was never associated with the military.

Trivia

  • Whenever Etta became excited or agitated, she always shouted her trademark catch phrase "Woo-Woo!"
  • Unlike her Post-Crisis counterpart, Etta Candy never felt ashamed or insecure about her physical appearance. In fact, she delighted in the fact that she was overweight, and proudly carried a box of chocolates with her at all times.
  • Etta has always claimed that she is perpetually sixteen-years-old. As such, the Holliday Girls always presented her with a sixteen-course meal on her birthday. Etta's birthday is on April 1st (April Fools Day).
