The Fear Engine is a device forged at the behest of Sinestro.
History
It was built to institute a reign of terror over the universe by fueling the Sinestro Corps with the fear of the strongest they could capture.[1] The device worked by placing captives within bubbles in the Engine, and putting helmets with Sinestro Corps emblems on their heads to show them an unending torrent of their own fears.[2] With the Fear Engine, the Yellow Power Rings could reach power levels of over 100 percent.[1]
Placing Administrator Lash of the Sacrament in charge of the device, the Corps added Guy Gardner of the Green Lantern Corps to the engine and increased it to maximum operation during an assault by the rest of the Corps and Hal Jordan himself. Sinestro removed all safeguards on his ring to tap into the full fury of the Fear Engine, which upped his power to 1000%, and nearly caused him to explode, to face down Hal Jordan.[2] Although the power level was nearly enough to defeat Jordan, Guy Gardner's unwavering recitation of the Green Lantern oath was taken up by others in the Engine, causing its power over them, with its fear visions, to begin to fail even before Soranik Natu disabled it and took all of the captives out, rendering it useless. Ultimately, the Engine was destroyed when Jordan allowed the willpower inside of him to explode, seemingly sacrificing his own life to destroy the entirety of Warworld.[3]
