Fear lodges are shells made by the Weaponers of Qward to test newly recruited members of the Sinestro Corps. After their training by Arkillo, a new recruit is sent to the Archive Tower, where Lyssa Drak, Keeper of the Book of Parallax, oversees their entry into the fear lodge. The recruit is sealed inside the lodge, completely in darkness, and will remain their until they embrace their greatest fears and cause their Qwardian Power Ring to spark, which would open the lodge, and officially mark the recruit as a member of the Sinestro Corps. The process was not always successful: some failed because they were unable to open the lodge, and died of starvation and thirst. Others were driven made by their fears and killed themselves.
The Sinestro Corps member Bedovian dwells within a fear lodge, having turned his normal shell into one.
