History

Fever is a designer street drug commonly found in the criminal markets of Gotham City. Officially known as Feverol Trinitrite, the drug acts as a stimulant, is available in pill form, and sells for approximately five dollars for four pills. Like most narcotics, Fever is extremely habitual and addicts are often referred to as Feverheads. Imbibing two Fever pills produces a fast high, wherein the user experiences accelerated levels of energy, increased stamina and a loss of inhibitions. It has been described as "Getting' a bucket of flame poured over your, 'cept it feels good". The high lasts for approximately half an hour, before users begin feeling symptoms of withdraw, such as cold sweats and agitation. One of the primary traffickers of Fever was the criminal known as the Ventriloquist (or more succinctly, Scarface). Working through a network of intermediaries, they processed the Fever out of a boarded up safe house on Delirious Street. Most of their product came into the United States by way of Mexico. It was a common practice for Scarface to have disloyal men murdered, their bodies turned into virtual suitcases through which to smuggle the Fever into the U.S. The bodies were then taken to Rizzo's Funeral Parlor, where one of Scarface's contacts would perform an autopsy to extract the drugs and redistribute it to various labs.

Batman learned about the drug market when he encountered a gang of twelve-year-old children high on Fever who had brutally burned an elderly security guard to death. Batman was horrified to see children so young (some only eight years old) destroying their lives through drugs. The incident brought him into conflict with the Ventriloquist for the very first time. After surreptitiously planting a tiny transmitter chip on the Scarface puppet, Batman learned where the drugs were being manufactured. He raided Rizzo's Funeral Parlor and fought with the Ventriloquist and his men. During the scuffle, a table filled with uncut Fever spilled over, and Batman was briefly subject to its effects. High on the drug, he flew into a frenzy and beat the Ventriloquist so badly that it took all of the Dark Knight's willpower to keep from killing him.

Selling Fever has also become a major source of income for the criminal gang known as the Street Demonz.
