Synopsis for Green Lantern: "Cutting Remarks"
Inside an antique shop, a lunatic buys a sword and kills the vendor.
In Oprah’s show, Green Lantern responds to the criticism of the audience. Oprah claims that to be fearless, one would have to be a mental case. A psychologist present at the program says that self-preservation is motivated by fear of dying, so if he is fearless, he lacks the most basic human instinct. Another attendant says that a hero is someone that overcomes their fears. Hal explains his ring keeps him alive in extreme circumstances, so fear of death is not a major concern for him. The woman puts his husband, a policeman, as an example, who lays his life on the line every day without a ring that keeps him alive, making him a real hero.
At the same time, Detective Joey (the husband of the woman in the audience) is in a cafe when the mad man with the sword crashes in and kills him, alongside other customers.
Hal leaves Oprah’s show, but he reflects on what the psychiatrist said. He realizes he does not know what it’s like to be afraid. He then encounters the lunatic killing people on the streets. But before confronting him, Hal takes off his ring, determined to discover if he is indeed completely fearless without the aid of his power ring.
