Quote1 Superman's life on Earth with Lois and Jon is a blessed one. I have no doubt he knows this. But weigh that against all this... all these lives that were allowed to continue... as well as the new generations that would stretch into the future... and the temptation to embrace this is obvious. Synopsis for "Booster Shot, Part II"

Superman, Booster Gold and Skeets attempt to escape from Kryptonian security forces led by General Zod. Although his powers have been drained by Krypton's red sun, Superman makes himself useful by grabbing one of Booster's laser gauntlets and using it to cover their escape. Booster grabs Superman and helps him escape towards the mountains. They notice the Krypton they are in right now is much different from the Krypton Superman was born in; for starters, Jor-El is getting help from the Kryptonian government to build spaceships to evacuate the population. Booster says that their presence is distorting the timeline and altering history.

Although Booster insists on leaving this time period, Superman refuses, as he still wants to discover what happened in Krypton's last moments. His suspicions about something or someone altering the timeline have been raised even higher after seeing Jor-El working so closely with General Zod. Skeets explains that the timeline they are in right now used to be part of a bigger timeline, the timeline they hail from. For whatever reason, this time period was separated from the larger timeline and became self-sustaining and it won't be long before this timeline becomes permanent. Booster tells Superman they must return to their timeline, but Superman insists on discovering the truth about his father.

Meanwhile, Jor-El and Zod attempt to capture the intruders, believing they are attempting to sabotage their evacuation plan. Upon watching security footage of the intruders, Jor-El and Zod wonder why is one of intruders wearing the symbol of the House of El. Although he does not suspect Jor-El to be in league with the intruders, Zod insists the intruders to be arrested, so he orders the Eradicators to mobilize. Zod takes command of a squad of Eradicators and attacks Superman and Booster, who barely have enough time to defend themselves.

Back on Earth, Lois and Jon go to the Pentagon in search for answers about what happened to General Lane. One of Sam's old friends, who works at the Pentagon, agrees to meet up with Lois and tells her that Sam was captured on Logamba after acting on his own accord, without authorization from the United States government.

Eluding Zod and the Eradicators, Booster is forced to take Superman to the time sphere. As the heroes leave Krypton, they bear witness to the changes the timeline has experienced. In this new timeline, Jor-El and Zod succeeded at evacuating the people of Krypton to a new planet, where Kryptonian civilization prospered. Jor-El and Lara lived to raise Kal-El, who would start a family of his own and lead Krypton to a new era of peace and enlightenment. Superman is devastated and angry that Booster prevented him from experiencing this new timeline, but Booster only insists he upheld his duty to protect the timestream.

Unfortunately, the time sphere malfunctions and crashes on a new time period: Gotham City on the 25th century. Amidst the sphere's wreckage, one of the Kryptonian Eradicators reactivates and states its intention to eradicate the new time period.

Notes

  • Booster Gold speculates that averting Krypton's death, which would result in Earth 0's timeline being changed, may have consequences on the entire Multiverse. This foreshadows the "truth" about the Metaverse from Doomsday Clock #12.
