Batgirl #31 is an issue of the series Batgirl (Volume 1) with a cover date of October, 2002. It was published on August 14, 2002.

Synopsis for "The Catafracts"

Using a pizza van and delivery man disguise, members of the Ninth Legion go around Gotham City, killing off members. Jack Drake, however, is not at home, and they move on to the next target while Batgirl takes Connor Hawke and Eddie Fyers to her Batcave.

She contacts Batman, who intimidates Eddie into giving up his guns, which Batgirl throws out. He identifies the rings each victim was wearing as a symbol of the Ninth Legion, a social club dating back to the time of the Caesars. Batman faxes them a list of the five members who live in Gotham, one of whom is Bruce Wayne.

Another is Jack Drake, who is attending a ceremony in his honor with his wife Dana, his son Tim, and Tim's girlfriend Stephanie. Eddie pretends to be an employee to bring Jack backstage, but really he steals his clothes and goes on stage pretending to be him, which is when the Ninth Legion attacks.

Rather than killing Eddie, the Legion kidnaps "Drake" and drives off with him. Jack is found in his underwear in a supply closet, and Batgirl and Green Arrow are joined on the case by Robin and Spoiler.
