Walter Kovacs was the ruthless, violent, and psychotic vigilante known to the public as Rorschach. He was abused as a child and grew up driven by a moral absolutism that allowed no compromises, killing anyone he saw fit as deserving justice, or stood in his way. Kovacs was eventually succeeded by his own psychoanalyst's son Reggie Long, who himself was mentally traumatized by the "alien" attack on 11/2.

In another continuity, Rorschach's legacy would go an even darker route, inspiring domestic terrorists to co-opt his name and identity like Wil Myerson as well as the white supremacist group the Seventh Kavalry.

Walter Kovacs was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, first appearing in Watchmen #1 (1986). Reggie Long was created by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, first appearing in Doomsday Clock #1 (2017).
