The Black Pope ruled over a group of albino Romans living beneath Rome.
History
Hundreds of years ago a split occurred in the church when Stephen and Ursilus were both elected pope by various groups. Following a bloody battle, Ursilus' side retreated into subterranean caverns beneath Rome and were trapped inside. The Black Pope was the current pope in an illegitimate line following Ursilus and so he hated the true pope, now Hadrian. The Black Pope had his followers abduct women from the surface to propagate their mutated race. He also planned to abduct and assassinate Hadrian and reclaim the papacy for himself. Unfortunately for him, Valda was also abducted and Arak tracked them to their stronghold. The Black Pope made Arak go through a series of trials in order to win their freedom and although Arak prevailed, he ordered their deaths anyway. At this point, one of the abducted women stabbed and killed the Black Pope with a sword and the heroes escaped in the ensuing chaos.[1]
