The Crimson Centipede was created by the god of war Mars to destroy Wonder Woman.

Having been created by the god of war himself in defiance of the goddess Aphrodite, the bizarre creature with a myriad of limbs was endowed with powers that made him a match for the Amazon Princess — she herself admitted that the Crimson Centipede was the mightiest threat she had ever faced so far.

Unable to be stopped by Washington police, the Centipede distributed the money from his bank robberies among criminals in the underworld, and thus spread a wave of crime and injustice, as desired by Mars.

Diana was defeated in the first two encounters between the two, but in their third and final battle, after much effort the Centipede managed to overthrow Diana and took the opportunity to remove her Bracelets of Submission in order to leave her without protection against the next volley of bullets he would fire at her. But the Crimson Centipede did not know that, by taking her bracelets off, he would unleash all the mighty Amazon's powers.

Now out of control of her own strength, Diana managed to defeat the Crimson Centipede, but her menacing fury could only be contained when Steve Trevor was able to put her bracelets back on her.[1]
