Synopsis for "Step Six: Stop Running"

At 9:25am, a nuclear plant exploded outside a major American city. The Justice League moved to contain the damage... but their real trouble is just beginning, for at ground zero, Mike Miller has absorbed most of the explosion's power. Calling himself the Inhuman Flame, he beats them up and makes for the nearest city. However, his heat is such that the bridge he walks in on melts into the river immediately after.

Melting everything, the newly-empowered villain walks into a bank and casually tries to rob it, but the money burns and the gold melts. The Justice League shows up to try and talk him down, but he beats them back and tries to steal a car and drive away - only to have it melt out from under him. A feeling of desperation hits him - only to be beaten down. He decides to stop running and fight. Growing to massive size, he starts throwing things around. As the heroes are occupied, he tears the roof off a strip club, simply so he can watch.

Within half an hour, the Justice League have been joined by elements of the army and the National Guard. Miller responds by growing in size. People kept telling him he was a loser, so he has decided to kill his previous self and become something else. If this new self is a monster, then so be it. However, as he grows to 200 feet in height, he discovers he cannot move. He immediately blames the heroes, but a scan by Green Lantern reveals the truth - the Inhuman Flame grew so big that he can't actually move his mass with the power of his own muscles anymore.

The next day, Mike Miller has been moved to the interior of an asteroid. Superconducting rods channel the heat he generates out into the blackness of space, and he cannot escape except by shrinking down to normal - which he will not think to do. Mike maintains that he has right, but Firestorm points out that he left his rights behind with his humanity. As the heroes fly away, Green Lantern decides to go back for a parting shot. He spells it out:

Mike broke the law. He got the Martian Manhunter killed. And when it went south, he whined and ran away, leaving behind a trail of destruction, injury, death and broken promises behind him. He thought he could cheat justice. But Justice always catches up.

And, making a mobile phone with his ring, Green Lantern takes a picture of the trapped Human Flame.
