Synopsis for "Mosaic, Part One of Four: Structures"

In the transplanted Earth-town of Greenville, on Oa, two teens are excited to meet and converse with alien species, but when their neighbors prove to be violent expansionists, things take a bad turn. When John Stewart, the sole Green Lantern on Oa, arrives on the scene, he finds the towns folk planning to go to war against the aliens. At first, Stewart seems too sympathetic with the aliens', but when the aliens blast him, he is forced to reevaluate. He captures two of the aliens and attempts to enter their minds. The aliens are empaths, and while they seem to be comfortable with John, their expansionist drive makes them hope only to devour him. Unfortunately, the aliens are capable of using a form of yellow energy as a weapon, and John must hide the fact that Green Lanterns are weak to the colour yellow.

As a quick fix, he digs up a forest from one of the Earth settlements, and plants it down between the aliens and the humans. John Stewart heads to the citadel of the Guardians of the Universe to plea for their help in resolving the issue. He believes it would be best to either seal them off or move them elsewhere. The Guardians, however, have decided to leave any and all issues in the cities of Oa to Stewart.

Meanwhile, the citizens of Greenville send word to Hope Springs, home of Hal Jordan's friend and erstwhile love interest Rose Hardin, for help. Rose is reluctant to join them at first, but when they suggest that her son Toby could become a victim, she grabs her gun.

John Stewart struggles with the responsibility of having to solve a seemingly unsolvable issue on his own. He researches famous Earth diplomats and politicians, hoping to find some kind of human solution to an alien problem, but eventually he falls asleep. He is awakened by a troubling message that he thinks may be a dream. Even so, he makes his way to Greenville, where the humans are already about to find themselves at an incredible disadvantage.
