Synopsis for "Not-So-Secret Origin"

Five years ago in Detroit, Cisco Ramon and his brother Dante were unhappy to learn that their brother Armando was planning to leave the state for college in California. Though Dante saw no value in going to college, Armando warned Cisco that he would have to go. He had too much potential not to.

As they walked through an alley, they were surprised suddenly when a flash of light sent a surge of electricity through young Cisco's body, and in that moment, it was as though he could see into another world. In an attempt to save his brother, Armando grabbed him, and pulled him free, only to leave a rift open for a Parademon, whose arrival signalled the beginning of Darkseid's invasion on Earth. Without hesitation, the creature killed Armando, who became the first victim of the attack. Cisco, meanwhile, was robbed of his chance to go to college - and a brother.

Now, Cisco is five years older, and working at a Tech Mecca store, selling appliances. Unfortunately, he has trouble selling a camera when a customer takes an impromptu photo of him, which turns out inexplicably blurry. His brother Dante visits him at the store, and - to Cisco's annoyance - wants him to spend the paycheck he just got at the casino. While they had won the first time they went, they lost it all the next two times, and Cisco isn't up for it again. After all, he has been trying to save for college. In his mind, he hopes that going to college on his own steam will make his lost brother proud. Dante, on the other hand, doesn't want to talk about Armando, and has been growing distant from the family because of it.

On his way home, Cisco is accosted by a retinue of government agents, one of whom introduces himself as Agent Dale Gunn of A.R.G.U.S. Gunn commands Cisco to get into his car, and offers justice for what happened to his brother. In the car, Gunn passes Cisco a file labelled "Vibe", which he explains is a codename for someone he's been watching who has been acting as a vigilante hero - and he intends to prove that Cisco and Vibe are one and the same.

Suddenly, Cisco is filled with a sharp pain as they park next to a house in the suburbs. Gunn explains that this pain is an effect of the interdimensional winds from when he was caught in the event horizon of a Boom Tube five years ago. The fact that he cannot be caught on film properly is a result of Cisco's internal vibrational frequency being shifted out of sync with the rest of the world. The agent urges Cisco to look at the house, and tell him what he sees. Looking, Cisco sees some kind of creature waiting inside.

Moments later, the creature leaps outside, drawing fire from the A.R.G.U.S. soldiers. Cisco recognizes it as one of the things like the one that killed his brother. Gunn confirms that this one is the same one that killed his brother, in fact. He states that Cisco has the power to destroy the Parademon by tapping into the vibrational tendons that hold reality together. His need for justice fills him, and Cisco rushes at the creature, beating at it with his fists. Upon contact, though, the creature becomes trapped between this dimension and its origin, and pulled apart, killing it.

Later, Gunn debriefs Cisco, explaining that his secret identity will be safe thanks to his inability to be captured on camera. Though Cisco is eager to leave, he is told that he is needed to stay and do more of the same kind of thing. Gunn explains that Detroit has become the nexus for interdimensional incursions, and Cisco's unique abilities are needed to keep control of that, like a gatekeeper. However, he will not be alone in this. After donning the guise of Vibe, Cisco will be inducted as a founding member of the all-new Justice League of America.

Cisco can barely contain himself upon returning home, and though he was told not to, he immediately reveals to Dante that he got the chance to get justice for Armando's death.

Later, Gunn worries to Amanda Waller that Cisco may not be interested in following along with her agenda for the JLA, and she warns that he had better, or he will be forced to join the Circus, along with all of the other failed recruits. The JLA has a very important role, and Vibe has a very important role within it. One day, Darkseid will return, to come back for his daughter.
