Synopsis for "Thunder Road"

Two scavengers named Paco and Duko recover an old 747 airliner and miraculously succeed in repairing it. As they fly across the country, they run afoul of Ben Boxer's sky-deck. Boxer cannot pilot the sky-deck out of the way in time, so instead he opens fire on the airliner, blasting it out of the sky. The 747 crashes into the ground. Paco is killed instantly, and Duko is not far behind him.

A short time later, Kamandi, Sleeper Zom and Saphira Cohen come upon the wreckage. Duko gives Saphira the severed finger of Eonz – Emperor of the Night Zone. He pleads with her to take the finger to someone named Vile John and warn him that the Deathslingers are coming.

The group continues on their journey until they eventually arrive in Washington, D.C. Saphira wants to check out the ruins of the White House library, but Kamandi cannot see the value of searching through a bunch of old books. As they scour the Washington archives, Saphira discovers a book written about Machine Mother.

Leaving Washington, they head down a wide continental highway, which they hope will lead them to Machine Mother's location in Arizona. Machine Mother communicates with Kamandi over a television set and warns him about Ben Boxer and the other Biomechs. She instructs him that they are to be killed on sight.

They journey down the highway and before long, they find themselves the target of several large road-ships. These road warriors open fire on them, and Kamandi and Sleeper fight back while Saphira drives their RV. The van takes considerable damage and they are forced to stop. The road warriors take them to their leader, Vile John. Saphira gives him Emperor Eonz's finger and warns him of the coming of the Deathslingers.
