Synopsis for "Lois Lane - Volunteer Nurse!"
Jimmy Olsen poses for a picture dressed as a prisoner complete with ball and chain. Perry White comes out of his office and trips over Jimmys Costume accessories. Perry is furious to find he has broken his leg because he realizes he has to go to the hospital for care. He makes things worse when he smashes down his fist in frustration and breaks his hand. Lois Lane witnesses Perry’s difficult behavior and secretly hopes she will not have to care for Perry while she works as a volunteer nurse at the hospital. Lois makes her rounds helping different patients. At one point she reads a newspaper to a bed ridden man and sees that the 14 karat gang is pulling robberies around town. She then sees Clark Kent entering Perry’s room and she follows. Perry commences to bellow out orders. He instructs Clark to investigate the 14 Karat gang when he is suddenly interrupted by a military general who enters the room. The General is towing a patient in an iron lung and explains that the man must stay in Perry’s room. The patients name is Lt Paul Hunt and he has apparently been shot by a foreign secret agent with a bullet made from a special alloy. The bullet has to be removed so it can be studied by government scientists. In the meantime, the bullet is hindering Hunts ability to breathe and he must be kept in the iron lung. The bullet must be removed but only by a specialist named Dr Rivera in Mexico. The General asks Perry to keep an eye on Lt Hunt to make sure enemy agents do not get to him while he arranges safe passage to Mexico for his operation.
Lois proceeds to care for Lt Hunt and he becomes increasingly smitten with her. At one point he even draws himself getting married to Lois. Hunt also talks in his sleep and Perry overhears him professing his love for Lois. While sleeping, Hunt also mentions that he is reluctant to ask Lois for Superman’s help in getting medical attention. Lois arranges for Superman to fly Hunt to Mexico for his operation. Later that night Lois visits Perry’s room and sees that he has received a new roommate who is also confined in an iron lung but she notices that this patient has his arms inside the lung unlike Hunt who had his arms on the outside. A suspicious Lois immediately catches a flight to Mexico and arrives at Dr Rivera’s office where she finds a healthy Lt Hunt and the man who posed as General Blair. They confess that they are members of the 14 karat gang and they have tricked Superman into helping them smuggle their loot out of the country. After they confess, they drop Lois through a trap door where she falls into a pool of water but she is immediately rescued by Superman and the gang members are rounded up. Lois has borrowed Jimmys watch to summon Superman’s help.
