Marzal Island is an island in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Africa in a dimensional pocket, causing it to vanish from Earth for extended periods of time every 200 years before reappearing.
History
It's inhabitants are descended from escaped slaves who revolted in the 18th Century and settled the island, developing an advanced and isolationist culture. It is the home of Legionnaire Troy Stewart. His name, Tyroc, is a Marzalian translation of "Scream of the Devil."

- Marzal is very similar in concept to Vathlo Island, an island on Krypton with black inhabitants introduced in Superman #239.
