Synopsis for "The Powerless Weapons of Adam Strange!"

Flying to intercept the Zeta-Beam that is due to strike the Australian Outback, Adam is shocked to discover his foe Jakarta the Dust Devil is free, Jakarta attacks him and manages to intercept the Zeta-Beam trapping Adam on Earth until the next one.

Going to investigate how Jakarta got free, Adam finds that a power outage shut off the Wimshurst machine in his cell that kept him immobilized. Taking the device to the point where Jakarta will reappear on Earth when the Zeta-Beam wears off Adam soon finds that the device no longer works, the creature then forces Adam to be hit by the Zeta-Beam sending Adam to Rann unable to stop the Dust Devil on Earth.

When Adam tells Alanna that the Dust Devil is still on Earth, she tells him that, no, it's still on Rann. Just then the Jakarta appears and explains that it split itself in two, the half that was bombarded with Zeta-radiation was the one that was returned to Earth while he remained on Rann.

Adam and Alanna attempt to stop Jakarta with a number of weapons taken from the armory in Ranagar, but each time Jarkarta is able to make the weapons dissolve into dust. Covered in particles of Jakarta's own dust, the two adventurers begin experimenting with it and find that if they coat it with radiation whatever it's blown on is frozen in place.

Tricking Jakarta into another battle with a fake weapon, Jakarta merges with his other self who returned once again to Rann via another Zeta-Beam. Adam then tricks Jakarta into flying over a pile of his own irradiated sand which was hidden in the desert landscape. The irradiated particles then freeze Jakarta once again, defeating him.
