Quote1 Ahh...so that is how it was able to push me out. Using one of its former slaves to do its bidding. But I am no slave. I am its master. The chosen one. He who was foretold to become one with this great power...whether it wants to or not...and now that I have returned - Savitar will have his revenge. Quote2
Savitar src

Savitar is a rogue speedster who is obsessed with becoming one with the Speed Force, and an enemy of The Flash.

Origin

Savitar is the self-declared god of speed. He was a Cold War pilot for a third-world nation, who was to test a supersonic fighter jet. As he reached top speed, his plane was struck by what appeared to be lightning, transforming him into a conduit of the Speed Force. He became obsessed with speed, naming himself after Savitar, Hindu for "god of motion", and dedicating his life to unlocking its secrets.

Death and Rebirth

After he was touched by Barry Allen, who had been infected with the Negative Speed Force, Savitar was disintegrated and eventually woke up in a dark void, where he could hear others pleading and crying. After years of trying, Savitar finally regained his connection to the Speed Force, allowing him to create a portal to escape his prison. He then ascended into the Speed Force itself, bathing in its cosmic energy and using what he learned in the dark to pull at the Speed Force to drain its energy in order to make himself more powerful. Eventually the Speed Force began expelling powerful surges of energy throughout the timeline, in an attempt to expel Savitar from within. These surges would discharge into the material universe from the bodies of random speedsters across time, space and parallel universes. One of these surges caused the Sanctuary disaster.

The Speed Force pulled Wally West into itself to try to force Savitar out. Wally eventually succeeded in pulling Savitar into the material world and defeated him. By the time Savitar was removed from the Speed Force, the world around was different from when he was first disintegrated, due to various timeline alterations. After he was defeated, Savitar was returned to his prison.[1]

Powers

  • Speed Force Conduit: Savitar possesses a connection to the Speed Force, a mysterious cosmic force that pushes time and space itself forward. As it does this, the Speed Force creates excess energy that builds up and needs to be released. Savitar, along with all speedsters connected, acts as a release valve for the Speed Force. Being a Speed Force Conduit radically accelerates all aspects of Savitar's being. Due to his time spent adrift in the Speed Force, Savitar absorbed massive amounts of its energy, making him much more powerful than ever before. This created an unshakable connection between him and the Speed Force that rivals even that of Wally West.[1]
    • Superhuman Speed: Savitar is capable of moving at vast superhuman speeds, fast enough to keep up with the likes of Wally West. He was even fast enough to speed blitz the Justice League before they could react.[1]
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Savitar possesses reflexes far greater than a normal human being. This allows him to easily react to danger and events, and perceive the world in slow motion.[1]
    • Superhuman Stamina: Savitar's body can handle the stress of moving at superhuman speeds for extended periods of time without getting tired or weak.[1]
    • Superhuman Strength: Savitar can use his speed to boast his natural strength. He is strong enough to ragdoll other speedsters singlehandedly, with enough force to crush the ground beneath them. He was even capable of sending Superman flying several feet with a punch.[1]
    • Superhuman Agility: Savitar's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to superhuman levels. This allows him to easily make sharp turns and leap far distances while moving at superhuman speed.[1]
    • Speed Force Aura: Savitar's body is surrounded by a "friction cushion", which provides protection from the nastier elements of their speed, including friction, airborne particulate matter, kinetic impacts, G-Force and the like.
      • Superhuman Durability: Savitar is capable of resisting tremendous kinetic impact forces that could easily crush or kill a human, without suffering any serious external or internal injuries, making him much more durable than any human.[1]
    • Accelerated Healing: Like all conduits of the Speed Force, Savitar is capable of regenerating from injuries much faster than any normal human.
    • Dimensional Travel: Savitar is capable of using his speed to traverse dimensional barriers. He was able to use his energy to create a portal that allowed him to escape a prison outside of time, and enter the Speed Force.[1]
    • Electrokinesis: Savitar is able to generate and manipulate the electrical energy that he draws from the Speed Force. This Speed Force lightning emanates off of him, especially when he moves at super-speed. Savitar has complete mastery over the lightning, and is capable of creating massive electrical vortexes around himself.[1]
      • Electro-Blast: Savitar can project destructive bolts of his Speed Force lightning.[1]
      • Speed Force Absorption: Savitar can absorb Speed Force energy at astronomical rates, in order to add to his own power. He can drain the energy from other speedsters and even from within the Speed Force itself.[1]
    • Enhanced Senses: The Speed Force grants Savitar enhanced senses that allow him to perceive the world at a rate attuned to his reaction speed.
    • Retrocognition: Due to being outside of time when the Flashpoint and other timeline alterations had taken place, Savitar retains his memories of the Pre-Flashpoint world.[1]
    • Time-Travel: Savitar is capable of using his speed to break the time-barrier and travel throughout the timestream.[2]
