Spectre (Volume 3) #26 is an issue of the series Spectre (Volume 3) with a cover date of February, 1995.

Synopsis for "The Door of the Solstice"

Jim Corrigan recalls the first time he fought Azmodus, shortly after World War II. They both got amnesia after the battle. Jim Corrigan forgot he was dead and became a cop again for almost 20 years. Then, in a séance, the spell snapped and he remembered that he was the Spectre. Azmodus woke up too.

In the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Jim Corrigan asks Father Craemer what he wants for Christmas. Craemer says if he could have anything, he'd ask that nobody in New York City be murdered on Christmas Eve.

The Spectre warns everyone in New York not to kill. Then he finds a gang of kids after they shot a man. As the victim is ascending to Heaven, the Spectre stops him and brings him back to Earth. He transfers the victim's pain to the gang of kids, but the victim's wound will still kill him by morning, and when he dies, the gang of kids will die too.

The Spectre realizes there are too many people trying to kill, so he tries to enter the body of every person in New York so that he can anticipate their actions. But the pain is too much, and the Spectre can't take it.

In the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the shooting victim attends midnight mass with his wife and children, knowing that he'll be dead in the morning. The young gang member who did the shooting also shows up at the church and confesses to Father Craemer. Craemer encourages the Spectre to spare his life.

In the morning, the shooting victim wakes up fully healed. The kid who shot him is forgiven, and the other three gang members are reborn as babies.
