Star-Spangled War Stories #99 is an issue of the series Star-Spangled War Stories (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1961.
Synopsis for The War that Time Forgot: "The Circus of Monsters!"
Henry, Steve, and Tommy Frank were famous trapeze artists known as the Flying Franks, until they were drafted into the military. Six months later they are out at sea in the South Pacific aboard a battle ship. Sent out to find a missing raider party, they head toward an uncharted island on a raft.
As they are traveling toward the island the battleship they arrived in is attacked by a gigantic creature that attempts to destroy the ship until it blows it up with a torpedo. Continuing on their mission, the "Flying Boots" are attacked by a Brontosaurus which they fight off with grenades.
On shore they are chased by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, which they also kill by using their acrobatic skills to get to a safe height and tossing grenades at it. While crossing the tree tops, they find the raider parties raft when they are attacked by a giant snake. Once more a combination of their acrobatic skill and grenades allows them to kill the creature. However, they fall into a raging river that almost carries them over a waterfall into the nest of a Pterodactyl, which is where the missing raider party is located. When the Pterodactyl swoops and grabs the Flying Boots, the other troops shoot the creature until it drops them.
Landing in the ocean they see that their sub is being attacked by another giant Dinosaur, when the ships torpedo misses the monster, the Flying Boots redirect it back at it's intended target, killing it instantly. With the Flying Boots and the missing raider party aboard the vessel the Flying Boots are commended on a job well done.
