Stone Boy was a member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes, a group of heroes rejected by the Legion of Super-Heroes.

History

Stone Boy was among the tryouts that tried to join the Legion of Super-Heroes, but was rejected when his powers to transform him into stone only made him immobile (apparently it seems that he forgot to revert back into flesh). However, Stone Boy and along with several fellow washout tryouts were determined to become actual heroes and formed their own team, the Legion of Substitute Heroes. During the team's first actual heroism against Starfinger, Stone Boy was revealed that he has a no non-sense personality and higher intelligence, which he shares with the team, giving an excellent insight on Starfinger's Ionosphere-gobbling Furries and how to stop them (at this point the Substitutes were surprised that he could actually speak and previously believed that he was mute).
