Superman Family #171 is an issue of the series Superman Family (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 1975.

Synopsis for Supergirl: "Cleopatra Queen of America"

Lilibet Winsor, an exchange student from London is visiting an exhibition of an ancient Egyptian rod and suddenly feels herself drawn to it. Taking it she finds that all around her bow to her in servitude. Meanwhile, Congresswoman Barbara Gordon is paying a visit to the New Athens Campus where she is shown around by Linda Danvers. Neither of them is aware of each other's secret identities, but both women can feel a connection between them.

When a tornado inside a building threatens students, both women don their costumes and save the pair of students. Supergirl and Batgirl find out that it's the Egyptian staff (once owned by Cleopatra) that is causing the trouble, and at Lilibet's request, Supergirl takes the staff away. However, later Linda sees a news report telling that the U.S. Congress has turned over power to the United States to Queen Cleopatra, who is really Lilibet.

Flying to Washington, D.C., Supergirl attempts to wrest the mind controlling wand from Lilibet's hands, but the rod weakens her powers instead. Lilibet sends the Justice League of America against Supergirl, their combined might makes short work of the Girl of Steel who is then dumped in a river. She is rescued by Batgirl and both women deduce they are immune to the scepter because they were around the first time Lilibeth said she refused to dominate them. Together, Supergirl and Batgirl devise a plan to stop Lilibet.

Later, Lilibeth is about to give her first nationwide speech when she is attacked by a woman claiming to be the real Cleopatra. Cleopatra is immune to Lilibeth's scepter and tries to wrestle it away from Lilibeth, claiming only Supergirl could save her before Lilibeth reduced her powers. Supergirl shows up and fights Cleopatra but she is being defeated. Lilibeth gets frightened, restores Supergirl's powers and throws her scepter away. Supergirl quickly throws it into the sun. With order restored once more, Cleopatra reveals to be Batgirl in disguise, and Lilibeth admits she was being influenced by the scepter.

Later, Linda is giving her cousin Clark a ride, mentioning Batgirl's karate and driving lessons, and Clark thinks her cousin is too concerned with belonging to their adoptive world.

Synopsis for Lois Lane: "The Irresistible Lois Lane!"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #29.

Aliens capture Superman in a Green Kryptonite trap, and Lois Lane smuggles Red Kryptonite to him by kissing Aquaman, Batman, and Green Arrow with Red K-imprinted lipstick. The heroes smear the lipstick from their face to handkerchiefs, which Batman takes to Superman, at the Fortress of Solitude. The Man of Steel smears himself with the Red K, which makes him impervious to Kryptonite poisoning, and allows him to recover and defeat the aliens. Afterwards, Superman gives Lois a well deserved kiss after their plan was a total success.

Synopsis for Jimmy Olsen: "Jimmy Olsen, Boy Wonder!"

This story is reprinted from Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #111.

After Jimmy is rejected as a member of the Mystery Analysts of Gotham City, he gets Robin to allow him to take his place for a few days in disguise, figuring that pulling off such an imposture successfully will get him voted into the group.
