Superman Family #213 is an issue of the series Superman Family (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 1981.

Synopsis for Supergirl: "Bad Day for Blackrock"

At the same time Lena Thorul is found lying unconscious on her apartment, Supergirl keeps fighting Blackrock through the streets of New York City. As they duel, Supergirl states she already knows Blackrock works for the United Broadcasting Company because their director of Research and Development created both his costume and his Powerstone, which draws and converts radio and tv waves into energy. Likewise, Blackrock isn't happy that Greg Gilbert reneged on their deal and warned Supergirl about him, claiming he was merely going to scare off, not kill, Sal, the owner of an illegal gaming parlor Gil owes money to. Blackrock finishes the fight by creating a distraction and running off while Supergirl is busy.

Though their battle has been coincidentally observed by Greg, who comes to think the only way to get rid of Blackrock is fulfilling his end of the deal.

Meanwhile, Lena's mother-in-law has called an ambulance, and Lena has been taken to a hospital.

Shortly after, Supergirl catches Greg stealing the blueprints for GBS's experimental 3-D television. Supergirl points out he's digging himself deeper, and proposes a way out.

Shortly later, Kara finds out Lena has been hospitalized. As Linda Danvers, she makes her way to St. Vincent's Hospital, and meets Ida Colby, who says Lena has suffered a brain hemorrage and is in emergency surgery right now. Ida also believes she can't put off revealing Lena and Val they're Lex Luthor's sister and nephew.

Linda leaves, reflecting that maybe Lena's recent clash with Mind-Bomber, which boosted her psychic powers abruptly,[1] is responsible for her brain hemorrage.

Later that night, Greg meets up with Blackrock to hand out the blueprints. Blackrock attempts to murder Greg, but Supergirl interferes and makes off with the blueprints. Blackrock chases after her, and Supergirl lures him into the Lincoln Tunnel, where the broadcast signals can't reach his Powerstone. Supergirl unmasks Blackrock and finds out he's Peter Silverstone, who intended to plagiarize GBS's breakthrough.

Supergirl turns Blackrock over to the police. Later she and a pair of cops meet up with Greg. In exchange for testifying against Sal, he'll be granted immunity and relocated with a new identity.

Later, Linda is told Lena has made it through surgery. Though, Lena is slowly remembering she's Lex Luthor's sister. She says herself she's had a weird dream until she looks in a mirror, sees her head -that was shaved for the operation-, and notices the strong family resemblance.

Synopsis for Mr. and Mrs. Superman: "Queen of the Insect World"

Lana Lang's archaeologist father has given Lana a scarab broach that was used centuries ago by an Egyptian Pharaoh to combat insect swarms. Suddenly (while wearing the broach), Lana feels a compulsion to go to the roof of the Daily Star building and use magic to enlarge a housefly and ride away on it. She travels to a mulberry grove with silkworms, and enbiggins the worms and forces them to weave her a costume. Then, she giant-sizes some hornets and attacks Superman. The hornets are able to temporally defeat Superman (apparently because they are magical), but then Lana breaks off the attack and retreats. Afterward, she returns to normal and does not remember her actions -- however, Clark Kent recognizes her broach as the same one the "Insect Queen" was wearing.

  • While this is the first appearance of the Earth-Two Lana Lang as the Insect Queen, and she is called "Insect Queen" on the cover and in captions, no one actually calls her "insect Queen" in the story. She does refer to herself as the "Queen of Insects" once.
