Synopsis for "Into the Fire!"

The New Gods discuss the mysterious disappearance and apparent destruction of New Genesis. Metron, unable to remember his part in the events, asks Takion for help, but Takion refuses, saying he has business on Earth and leaves the group. With Takion out of the question, Metron thinks of someone else to do the task: Superman.

Mister Miracle and Big Barda Boom Tube into Superman's Fortress and take him with them, without giving him any time to explain he doesn't have his powers anymore. Metron asks Superman to fly him to the Sun so the heat can melt his suit's datacore, which will allow Metron to replay his memories. Before Superman can get the chance to explain his condition, the Annihilators attack the group. The New Gods fend off the robots and realize Superman is powerless during the battle. But the truth doesn't stop Metron, who builds a device to shield and send both of them to the Sun, hoping it will also return Superman's powers.

Metron and Superman put on their armor and prepare to head off. They both know there might be a chance of failure, but it's a sacrifice they're willing to make. Before leaving, Superman leaves one last message to Lois explaining the risk he has to take. They Boom Tube into the core of the Sun and start to endure the agonizing heat. The energy melts through their shields, but Superman recovers his powers in time to get himself and Metron out of there.

They Boom Tube back to Earth, where Barda and Mister Miracle use their Mother Boxes to heal Metron's burns. Metron connects his datacore to project what really happened with New Genesis, but they see what they already witnessed before: the collision between New Genesis and Apokolips.

Elsewhere, Riot steals some equipment from Emil Hamilton's lab. Guardian notices the burglars and follows them. Riot uses the Harmonizer to help him sleep, but Guardian accidentally wakes him up, and Riot multiplies to attack Guardian.

Meanwhile, Perry White's condition worsens and almost kills him, forcing him to get hospitalized.
