Synopsis for "The Superman of Yesterday"

Clark Kent receives a letter from old-timer Jeremy Bird, claiming that Superman had saved his life in North Dakota 60 years earlier. Bird was a logger, and was saved from a fallen tree and an angry band of Sioux by Superman. Clark was prone to dismiss it, except that Bird's details of Krypton were mathematically accurate - details which he claimed to get from Superman.

Clark continues reading, and picturing himself as the protagonist in Bird's yarn. Confused, Superman goes to a town in North Dakota to investigate the claim and finds contemporary newspaper reports that back-up Bird's story. Superman finally visits the old timer at the Sutter County Retirement Home, but Jeremy Bird doesn't recognize him, though his face is similar to the Kryptonian that Bird had met. Bird claims the man he met wore green and yellow, and had a son back on "Cripton" named Jor-El.

With the mystery solved, the next day's Daily Planet headline is "How Grandfather of Superman Visited Earth Six Decades Ago."

Bird reveals that the "Superman" he met wore a yellow and green costume, and that his son's name was "Jor-El".
