Synopsis for "The Demon: Hell Is Earth, Part Three"

The "death" of the young girl reveals her true form -- Merlin, Etrigan's half-brother and a long-time foe of the group. Merlin had been pursued by soldiers from Hell and used the distraction of the demonic bomb to escape. The girl was an ordinary child killed in the blast with her parents, after which Merlin occupied her corpse to stay under the radar; her prior visions were simply of her impending death and possession.

Merlin explains that he was on the run after being forced to aid the construction of a portal to Hell by its new King Belial, usurper of Lucifer. Death Valley is a source of uniquely powerful energy, making it well suited for the plan. Further, Merlin posited that the land itself reached out to those who might best protect it, choosing Belial's estranged children -- Etrigan and himself. Though united in anger that Merlin once again manipulated them, the group decides to aid him in the quest to close the portal.

No longer under the radar, the group is quickly discovered by Etrigan and Merlin's uncle Ruskoff. He reveals that Etrigan has become a subject of mockery in Hell and smugly decides to "spare" him from the slaying he supposedly deserves, claiming that his father will handle it later. Enraged by the suggestion that he is at the mercy of others, Etrigan swiftly slaughters his uncle and agrees to help close the portal so that he may kill his father.
