Synopsis for "The Demon: Hell Is Earth, Part Four"

Trapped within a cage, Lucifer is forced to listen to his usurper Belial monitor the progress of his plans, though he mocks Belial's inability to locate the magically shielded Jason Blood and Etrigan.

Jason, Etrigan, Xanadu, and Merlin continue their trek across the Hell-infused Death Valley on their way to the tear. The changes to the land empower a gleeful Etrigan, but cause Jason to feel suffocated and isolated due to his incorporeality. He is also concerned that he is losing his ability to reign in Etrigan, although Xanadu states to no response that he will never be too much for them to handle together.

However, Etrigan expresses privately to Merlin that Jason remains fundamentally and infectiously good, despite Jason's insistence that time is stripping it from him. This has caused demons to shun Etrigan as one of their own and he hates that this meant he no longer had somewhere he belonged. He explained that his attempts to break Jason mentally were so he would be released, though he had little success until they arrived in Death Valley. Etrigan threatens that one way or another, once Belial is dead, he will no longer have anything to do with any of the group.

Eventually, the exhausted group reaches the tear, guarded by massive hordes and nearly complete in its task. This close to the rift, they are no longer shielded from Belial.
