William North was a security guard at Arkham Asylum.

History

Arkham Asylum Takeover

Officer William North was among the many security personnel at Arkham Asylum, as the Joker was being recaptured by Batman. North was placed in charge of the lobby area in the Intensive Treatment Center. Before the Joker had arrived, North was tasked by Warden Quincy Sharp with double-checking all security, since he was a high-ranking senior guard at Arkham. He stationed every available guard in the Intensive Treatment Lobby and personally oversaw the Joker's intake.

However, despite all of North's precautions, the Joker still managed to escape during his arrival and successfully released every single inmate from their cells, causing a breakout. During the initial riot, many guards were murdered, but North managed to survive by fleeing into the Utility Corridor to hide.

North was eventually rescued by Batman as the Bat cleared through waves of escapees. North was thankful and offered Batman any assistance he could. Batman informed North of the betrayal and death of Frank Boles, one of his guards. North was devastated and swore to himself to look after the man's widow.

The night wasn't over though, and, while Batman went to clear out more areas of the asylum, North was hypnotized by Poison Ivy's pheromones, becoming one of her servants. When Batman set his sights on returning Ivy to her cell, she ordered North to attack, but Batman subdued him.

After Ivy's defeat, North recovered and waited out the rest of the night, recovering in the Botanical Gardens.

Arkham City

Months after the breakout at Arkham, William North graduated to being a GCPD officer.

When the new program called Arkham City replaced Arkham Asylum, North was assigned to patrol the prison-city and to quell riots.

During his post, North was kidnapped by the Riddler and used as bait to lure the Batman into one of his latest death traps. Batman would have to guess which door North was behind or risk electrocuting North by choosing wrong. Using his detective vision lenses, Batman picked the right door and saved North's life yet again.
