Synopsis for "The Calm"

Wonder Woman has been in an induced coma for the last three days, and upon waking, she is not happy about it. She learns from Zola that she was wounded rather gravely by her fight with the First Born and Artemis, and Highfather induced the coma so that she could heal. In the meantime, he chastised Orion, his son, for having brought foreigners to New Genesis. When Wonder Woman confronts Highfather about his decision to induce a coma in her, she is initially angry, but realizes soon that he saved her life by it.

In the meantime, on the ruined planet below, Orion is angry that he failed to defeat the First Born in their encounter, and his father forbade him from going back to rescue Lennox, who had sacrificed himself so that they could all escape through the Boom Tube. To his embarrassment, Diana finds him in a state of depression and self-hatred, but she insists on staying. He explains that he has always had trouble hiding his raw emotions, and his failure to meet the standard of perfection that exists on New Genesis fills him with shame. Diana explains that when she had tried to attain perfection, she had realized that what she ought to have been doing was just trying to be better - and the best way to start was by accepting who she was.

Diana wonders what happened to the planet that the people of New Genesis once lived on, seeing the ruins peeking up between the newly grown trees. Orion explains that a great war so poisoned the planets with its monstrous weapons that his people were forced to take to the skies. The war had ended with a stalemate, and the ruins were left to remind that only through vigilance can war be prevented. He hopes that one day, his people will be able to return to their homes. Diana admits that she and her friends need to go back to their home.

Though Highfather agrees to let them all go back home, he first restrains Wonder Woman, and orders his son to take Zeke from his mother. Though he is resistant, Orion obeys, while Highfather's soldiers ensure that Diana can do nothing to prevent it. As they are forced through the open Boom Tube, Diana warns that she will return for the child, adding that she knows Orion is better than the actions he is taking. She still believes in him, though Highfather may not. Thinking on this, Orion realizes that he must be true to who he really is; impetuous and impulsive. With that, he leaps onto his Astro-Harness, and follows after Wonder Woman, leaving an apology for his father. Though he had behaved as though he disapproved of Orion's actions, this had all gone according to Highfather's plan.

Diana is happy to see that Orion came to his senses when they all end up on the other end of the Boom Tube together. Unfortunately, what waits for them there is a city in flames. London is burning. The determine that the First Born has likely taken up residence in Westminster Abbey, and they find him there, sitting on the throne inside. He comments that though it is a place where kings are crowned, it is puny - a puny place for puny men. Angrily, Wonder Woman responds that she will avenge every death by his hand. He responds that she can start with Lennox's tossing his broken stone head at her feet.

Diana mourns the loss of one of her family as the First Born introduces his own family - an army of hyena men. Though Diana warns her friends to seek safety, they refuse to abandon her. Huddling together, they are surprised when War appears, and announces his intention to aid them.
