Synopsis for "Beginnings"

On Earth 2, several years ago, Helena Wayne and her mother, Catwoman decided that it was time for her to try fighting crime on her own as Robin without the supervision of her father, the Batman, who had been spending more of his time saving the world from bigger threats. On that first outing, Helena had displayed remarkable skill and precision, making no mistakes at all. Her mother was proud. Her father, however - when he discovered it - became angry, warning that Helena's safety was at stake without him there to instruct her. Selina shut him up with a kiss, much to Helena's disgust.

Elsewhere in Micronesia, Superman trained his cousin Kara to be Earth's secret weapon. With the coming threat of Darkseid, he needed her to be able to defend herself and to hide better than Batman, because Darkseid seemed to know far too much about the Earth's heroes - especially Superman. As his last remaining relative, Kal wanted Kara to be able to survive in the way that his wife Lois had not. Regardless of how strong Kara was, she would have to know that Darkseid could hurt her.

While training in the Batcave, Helena was startled by the sound of an alarm. It was a sound she had never heard before, but knew it meant trouble. She donned her costume, knowing that if either of her parents were at the scene, neither would accept her help. When she arrived, she found her father kneeling over her mother's body. Catwoman had been killed. She thought it was just a trafficking ring, but it was something much worse. He failed to get to her in time. Filled with a need for vengeance, Helena rushed into the burning building in search of the men who killed her mother. Wincing with pain, Batman put out a call for anyone to help her, knowing she could easily be overwhelmed in this state.

Helena soon found herself surrounded by men with other-worldly weapons. Suddenly, though, the wall behind them burst to pieces under the force of Supergirl's speedy entry. Kara admitted that she had overheard Batman's signal, and secretly came to Helena's aid, knowing that her cousin would not approve. Together, they decided to finish the rest of the gunmen off, but they were surprised to find them all vanishing through a strange portal.

Realizing that Helena had just lost her mother, Kara admitted that she too had lost a mother figure in Lois, and the two became good friends.
