Synopsis for "Tongues of Flame, Part I"

In California, Yorick Brown enters a church for solace. He encounters a woman living there who tries to defend herself, thinking that he is part of the Daughters of the Amazon. She incinerates some of his clothing and he reveals that he's the last living man. The two chat and he learns that her name is Beth and she was a flight attendant prior to the gendercide. While she's talking, he interrupts to confess that he killed someone.[1]

She recounts her story of surviving the gendercide: she was on a flight and all of the pilot crew died spontaneously. The only air traffic controller she could contact believed that it was a kind of divine retribution, but she helped Beth land the plane hard on some grassland. The plane crashed killed almost everyone, leaving her and three other women as survivors. They talk through her survivor guilt and Yorick passionately kisses her. The two begin to have sex in the graveyard where they are chatting, but on the other side of the church, Daughters of the Amazon are on the prowl.
