Synopsis for "Ring of Truth, Part I"

On July 17, 2002, Yorick Brown went to a magic shop to buy an engagement ring for his girlfriend Beth Deville, but his proposal was interrupted later that day by a spontaneous gendercide that killed all males other than himself and his monkey Ampersand.[1] Around two years later, he has been escorted across the United States of America by Agent 355 of the Culper Ring to a laboratory run by Allison Mann, a geneticist who hopes to restart the human race.

He takes a break from the experiments to visit a basketball game for his birthday and when he and Agent 355 leave, they are accosted by Anna Strong and her Setauket Ring: an offshoot of the Culper Ring who are obsessed with capturing the Amulet of Helene, which they think is responsible for the gendercide. Agent 355 and Yorick barely escape from them, but an agent manages to steal the ring he got for Beth years ago. The duo arrive back at Allison's home and Agent 355 insists that they have to abandon the laboratory, as the Setauket Ring are too dangerous and she can't ensure their safety. Allison protests, but as the two argue, Yorick falls violently ill.

Meanwhile, Hero Brown continues hunting for her brother, mere miles away and haunted by hallucinations of her former cult leader Victoria.
