Z'onn Z'orr is the name of an ancient Martian city hidden in the wastelands of Antarctica many centuries ago.
History
The compound was used as the base of operations for a band of villainous White Martians known as the Hyperclan. After a fight involving the JLA, the Hyperclan were removed from the area, and League member J'onn J'onzz converted the site into his private fortress.
Z'onn Z'orr was invaded by J'onn's evil brother, Malefic, taking the likeness of J'onn and tortured the Saturnian known as Jemm who was in his care. When members of the Justice League arrived to investigate an emergency signal to find a distraught Jemm, they followed the last teleportation coordinates to uncover a terraforming machine housing grotesque experimentation on many humans. Disguised as the Martian Manhunter, Malefic attacked the League to turn them against his hated brother.[1] When they confronted the real Manhunter at the Watchtower, J'onn secretly deduced the unseen villain's plan. He teleported his severed arm to Z'onn Z'orr before intentionally walking into Malefic's trap.[2] With Malefic thinking his twin dead, J'onn regrew his body from his limb. The Martian compound was actually a space vessel, and after restoring his body mass, J'onn flew Z'onn Z'orr to the Moon to save his friends.[3] He goaded Malefic aboard the craft and pre-set the warp coordinates. While the two fought, J'onn restored Malefic's telepathy, just as the ship warped in proximity to the Sun. Now vulnerable to the psychological weakness of fire, Malefic burned up along with Z'onn Z'orr, while J'onn was rescued by Superman.[4]
