Flamebird is an alias used by multiple heroes, usually as sidekick to the vigilante Nightwing. Originally the name of a crime-fighting duo on the planet Krypton, Superman would bring their legacy to inspire others on Earth. Jimmy Olsen briefly used the alias during the Silver Age. Bette Kane took the name to reflect the career of her counterpart Dick Grayson. Kara Zor-El used it while protecting Kandor. Thara Ak-Var has also taken the name as a vigilante of New Krypton. Flamebird was created by Edmond Hamilton and Curt Swan, first appearing in Superman #158. (1963)
